Rough schedule for the rewritten Homestuck posts!

Rewriting my old Homestuck posts is super fun, like holy shit, how can something possibly be so much fun. It’s enthralling that I’m just starting to make my remastered deluxe edition of my post series into a reality.

Post 3 rewritten is coming out tomorrow, 2/18!

And I’ve decided that up to post 27, rewrites of my posts will (probably) be coming out every two to three days! Alongside that, my plan for the remaining Act 6 Act 3 posts is intact, that hasn’t changed.

With that in mind, I’d like to point out that my posts covering early Act 5 Act 2 are starting to feel a bit dated too. Dated as in they don’t totally reflect my current views or the way I now intend to analyze Homestuck. But I won’t rewrite/remaster those posts right after I’m done with rewriting the first 27. Once that batch is done, I’ll definitely go back to making new Homestuck posts. It’s just that right now, as the community reread is going on, I can’t resist indulging in the past.

Rewritten old Homestuck posts – this is just the beginning!

While participating in the community reread, I realized that it would be awesome if I did more rewrites of my old Homestuck posts, similar to my rewrite of my first post.

I’ve decided that I will rewrite all of my first 27 Homestuck posts. This would be all of my posts up to the end of the trolls’ arc, right before I revamped the style of those posts. I’m probably going to do the rewritten old posts in tandem with the new posts covering the rest of Act 6 Act 3 and beyond.

When will this project start? Well technically, it’s already started, so maybe I should ask: when will it resume? I’m not totally sure, but a rough idea is when the community reread gets to the start of Act 5 Act 2. Though who knows, maybe I’ll be bored one day and just suddenly type up a new rewritten post; that’s how I resumed this entire project anyway.

EDIT: I got bored one day and just suddenly typed up a new rewritten post! Rewrite of post 2 coming 2/16; definitely stay tuned for more.

I feel like rewriting these old posts is a good idea because it’ll help make the deluxe/ultimate edition of my Homestuck post series into a bit more of a reality than it was when I first conceived of it. Also, I updated my introduction post to include the rewritten posts.

When my next few Homestuck posts (83-85?) are coming

I’m participating (a bit behind schedule) in the Homestuck community reread, leading up to the comic’s tenth anniversary. I’ve been discussing it a bit on the Homestuck + Hiveswap Discord server and I might participate in the Reddit threads later on too.

I made a decision on my blog posts related to that: my next Homestuck reread blog post will come out a little after the reread reaches the page I left off on. The post featuring [S] Caliborn: Enter is tentatively planned for 4/13, though it’s possible I’d end up doing the start of Openbound then instead, which wouldn’t be ideal because Caliborn: Enter is an important flash and turning point. We’ll see what’ll happen I suppose.

This means that Cookie Fonster Dissects Homestuck Part 83: [no title yet] is planned to come out in March, and maybe part 84 too depending how I divide the comic up.

Looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Homestuck’s tenth anniversary!!!

A New Year’s Announcement Part 2: The Actual Plan, for Real

So the other day, I remembered the posts I planned to write blog posts about the document detailing the Condesce’s story on Earth, on both sides of the Scratch, elaborating on the guardians’ lives along the way.

The short story is, those posts are cancelled.

The long story is, those posts aren’t exactly cancelled. I absolutely plan to discuss this material as I go through my Homestuck blog posts! My current tentative plan is to discuss each kid’s life across the scratch during the relevant reunion scenes in A6A6I5, where all kids except Jade learn their lives across the scratch. It’s kind of a long way from now, but keep in mind this is a tentative plan that could change any minute. A lot of my blog posts I’ve written on impulse, which as you know is how I ended up reviving my Homestuck post series in the first place.

Anyway, here goes:

  • John, Jake, and Jade’s lives will be discussed at the start of John and Jake’s conversation, during the lilypad selection screen.
  • Jane’s life across the scratch will be discussed at the start of her meeting with Nannasprite.
  • The Lalondes’ lives will be discussed at the start of their first conversation, again during the lilypad selection screen.

^ These are going to be handled in the following form: basically “Before we begin going through this conversation, I’d like to discuss ___”. It’s similar to how when a character or concept is first introduced in the comic, I generally take a moment to discuss it before going on.

The Striders’ lives across the scratch are the exception here; since their reunion is so long and detailed, I’ll discuss their lives across the scratch as I go along. Part of why I’m doing this is because their lives aren’t elaborated on very much in the external material, rather only in the actual comic.

As I thought about these posts again, I realized I could expand this idea to discussing the trolls’ lives across the scratch. There’s a major oddity with them: technically speaking, we know a lot about the pre-scratch trolls’ (Meenah and company) lives across the scratch, but next to nothing about the post-scratch trolls’ (Karkat and company) lives across the scratch. Weirder yet, for the most part it’s far easier to compare Karkat and company to their own ancestors than it is to compare Meenah and company to their post-scratch selves (Karkat and company’s ancestors). The biggest exception to this is Feferi, whose pre-scratch life is explored through the general atmosphere of Beforus, just as Meenah’s life is explored through the Condesce’s character and the atmosphere of Alternia. Aradia is another exception in a way, since her ancestor was Lord English’s slave who made Alternia miserable, but she’s always been an oddball character among the trolls so maybe that comparison actually makes sense. Since it’s hard to discuss the trolls without Vriska coming to mind, I can’t stop myself from noting that Aranea trying to be more like Mindfang seems to be a deconstruction of these character comparison oddities, and how they make no logical sense.

I’ll discuss the trolls’ lives across the scratch, as well as the pre-scratch trolls in general, in more detail when I start Act 6 Intermission 3, one of the most controversial parts of the comic. Keep an eye out for new posts in the days leading up to 4/13!

A New Year’s Announcement!

Happy new year! Today marks the start of 2019; the end of a year whose tail end I spent largely returning to Homestuck posts.

Today ALSO marked the release of some brand new Homestuck material, detailing the stories behind the guardians and the Condesce’s time on Earth, especially before the scratch. My reaction to it is as follows:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

(Partial) jokes aside, I would go right ahead and write about this new material, but I can’t just yet!!! I will be at MAGFest for the next few days, attending, among hopefully many other things, the SiIvaGunner panel. I’ll probably spend most of my time those days busy with all that stuff.

But after that all happens, I will write two blog posts about the Homestuck content. One with general thoughts, and another comparing in detail the lives of all eight kids—John, Rose, Dave, Jade, Jane, Jake, Roxy, Dirk—against what we now know about their lives across the scratch. I’m super excited to get writing once MAGFest is done! But I’d rather not cram in blog writing during my spare time, such as waiting at the airport, when I go to MAGFest. I have heard that it’s really sad when the event ends, and I can only imagine what state I’ll be in at that point.

I’ll post a lot about MAGFest on my Twitter! This will also be my grand face reveal so look forward to that.

Update on Post 82 + the rest of Act 6 Act 3

Post 82 is already done! It covers UU and uu’s chess game and the alpha kids’ subsequent character select screen. I’ll publish it tomorrow morning, as I look at it with fresh eyes, so get hyped.

While we’re at it, I have an actual plan for the next few Act 6 Act 3 posts! That plan is to divide Act 6 Act 3 into 11 (heh, 11/11/11) parts total, which means four left for the act; three before the special 4/13 post. There’s a chance I’ll change my mind and do 10 if one of the parts turns out not to have much material (maybe Calliope’s introduction pages), but my current setup is 11.

As I said on my Twitter, I’ll try to finish as much of A6A3 as I can before I go on vacation on the 19th, then if there’s anything left I’ll do the rest at whatever pace I feel like doing. Once I reach the second-last part of this act, I’ll go back on hiatus. I’m saving the post covering the final part of A6A3, which includes the Unite Synchronization flashes and [S] Caliborn: Enter, for 4/13, the tenth anniversary (holy shit) of Homestuck.

ENORMOUS EDIT: I look at my plan for A6A3 and was I drunk when I made it? Dividing Act 6 Act 3 into 11 posts makes no sense, 10 is so much better. Guess that all works in my favor, not that it matters much; either way, I’m easily on the right track for figuring things out. Who knows if I change my mind again later anyway? It could still be 11 parts.

Homestuck posts will be considerably shorter, probably

At this point doing that is pretty much the only way I can continue this stuff at a reasonable rate. I think each post now will maybe cover something like two to three scenes focusing on a specific character or something? Probably about 20 or 30 pages per post which I’ve already been doing pretty often. I still want to progress through this post series despite the steady drop in production rate and I feel like shorter posts will help that.

Next post should come out on Saturday, probably wait no I keep forgetting to work on these posts god dammit. Maybe having shorter posts will make that problem slightly less bad??? Who even knows. Still the next one’s almost done. In the mean time, listen to this music album I contributed to, it’s great.

1/18/2017: My next post really is almost finished and I can probably release it by the end of the day. After that they’ll definitely be a lot shorter.

Happy new year

2016 was a pretty weird year obviously. But I guess some cool things happened for me? Most notably discovering Cool and New Webcomic which is still the best thing ever. Also blogging commentary on a little over 2000 pages of Homestuck but that doesn’t matter as much.

Throughout this year I’ll try to update this blog at a not unreasonable rate, and that includes my Homestuck post series as well as me sharing random thoughts sometimes. How much will I be able to cover over the course of this year? Only time will tell.

Also I forgot to say I got a new laptop for Christmas so that’s pretty cool I guess.

Have a great 2017 everyone.

Progress on next Homestuck post + vacation update

12/27/2016: I’ve decided to end the stretch of pages covered in my next post a few pages sooner than I thought I would. Next post is two-thirds done now and I think I can finish it before the new year.

It may seem like it’s taken three solid weeks to work on my next Homestuck post, but I’ve really only been working on it for something like the past five days. Keep in mind then before that I took a break from these posts—they were about the only free time thing preparing for finals actually deterred me from. All that is over now of course. I’ll be on vacation during the week of Christmas, where I’ll be bringing my school laptop again; unlike last year I will work on these posts during that time. The scope of my projects has changed considerably over the past year; now it’s mainly these posts and Cool and New Webcomic music.

Next post is about 40% done as of December 22. If I’m lucky, maybe I could finish it around Christmas? No matter what happens it won’t be released before the new year. The next one after that probably won’t be very long, and as with my latest post which was released six days after the previous, maybe it won’t even take that long to make.

Looking back on my old hiatus post from almost exactly a year ago, the idea of pausing these posts for anything close to three months seems completely absurd. It’s still been a fun personal project for me; the main reason my posts have taken so long lately is because of how carried away I’ve been with it.

About my next Homestuck post

So yesterday I got Undertale and I’m now playing it like practically everyone else already has. This may or may not have an effect on my Homestuck posts. I say this because the next post I’m working on (which I’ve barely started as of this writing) happens to start with a walkaround game that involves a lot of puzzles and stuff, one that I’m not totally sure how to go through. Back when I was on Alterniabound I kind of skimmed over that stuff and I think I might do the same but I don’t really know; it’s more likely it’ll be like how I went through Seer: Descend, pointing out interesting bits. But regardless of all that, my next post won’t be very long, covering the three interactive pages up to the end of the scene focusing on Jane. I’d like to get it done by the end of the month.
