Small blog update (Homestuck posts and otherwise)

Reformatting old blog posts is harder than it sounds. So much stuff got totally messed up and it’s led to quite a bit of busywork and a bunch of clumsy going through everything and fixing dead links, image size, post date/time listed, pesterlog text formatting, fancy fonts… a whole bunch of bullshit that I’ve started to sort of fall off the wagon of. And it’s caused my third case this year of, let’s call it “blog burnout”. A burnout that causes me to just sort of keep forgetting my Homestuck post series exists. I estimate this burnout will end in November or December and I’ll resume my Homestuck posts with my fabled (by me) trickster arc post.

I’ve also been working on a non-Homestuck blog post I need to finish: a post reviewing K-ON! which is arguably the best work of media I’ve ever consumed, like seriously it’s so fucking good you need to watch it to believe it. I’ve been hyping up that post on Twitter a lot and I really need to get around to finishing it instead of being affected by blog burnout.

Update on Post 82 + the rest of Act 6 Act 3

Post 82 is already done! It covers UU and uu’s chess game and the alpha kids’ subsequent character select screen. I’ll publish it tomorrow morning, as I look at it with fresh eyes, so get hyped.

While we’re at it, I have an actual plan for the next few Act 6 Act 3 posts! That plan is to divide Act 6 Act 3 into 11 (heh, 11/11/11) parts total, which means four left for the act; three before the special 4/13 post. There’s a chance I’ll change my mind and do 10 if one of the parts turns out not to have much material (maybe Calliope’s introduction pages), but my current setup is 11.

As I said on my Twitter, I’ll try to finish as much of A6A3 as I can before I go on vacation on the 19th, then if there’s anything left I’ll do the rest at whatever pace I feel like doing. Once I reach the second-last part of this act, I’ll go back on hiatus. I’m saving the post covering the final part of A6A3, which includes the Unite Synchronization flashes and [S] Caliborn: Enter, for 4/13, the tenth anniversary (holy shit) of Homestuck.

ENORMOUS EDIT: I look at my plan for A6A3 and was I drunk when I made it? Dividing Act 6 Act 3 into 11 posts makes no sense, 10 is so much better. Guess that all works in my favor, not that it matters much; either way, I’m easily on the right track for figuring things out. Who knows if I change my mind again later anyway? It could still be 11 parts.

Random update 2: Coming back from the dead (maybe briefly)

So as you all know, Act 1 of Hiveswap finally came out. Having first read Homestuck in 2014 and then slowly starting to follow anything related to it closely, I never knew it as a thing to get hyped about or wait for. It was just sort of a background event for me, even as it kept getting delayed and was the only real official Homestuck related thing that could be followed. I’ve still been wrapped up in all that fanmusic stuff I’ve been doing—two old songs of mine were re-released last week on Land of Fans and Music 4, a compilation album that you should really listen to right now. But now that Act 1 of the game is there and right in front of my eyes for me to play, it really does feel surreal. Then today it occurred to me that I could dump more of my dumb rambling about the game on this blog, even if I know probably nobody will read it.

I’ll probably post a review of Hiveswap here when I’ve finished playing through Act 1. I’ve already gone through quite a bit of the lore and connections to Homestuck’s plot, which really brings me back to the days when I actively updated this blog.

Speaking of which, the Homestuck commentary post series is still kind of a hanging idea in my head. It’s one I don’t actively take the time to think about, but when I do, I briefly get an urge to work on it before I forget about it again. I like to imagine that someday I’ll get to work on the abridged commentary, which more and more I feel I would do from scratch. Maybe when the fabled epilogue rolls around, I’ll finally regain all my old motivation??? I honestly don’t know at this point. I do look forward to seeing how the rest of Hiveswap rolls out.

EDIT (9/18/2017): I finished the game yesterday but I’m still working on the post.
